ABOUT UNEMPLOYMENT

If you are currently employed and will have to leave your current position due to relocation or a layoff you may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance.

Contact your local state Unemployment Insurance Office to find out more information. Some states allow filing of claims online.

ABOUT W.I.A.

You may be potentially eligible for employment and training services under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). If you are Civilian Dislocated Worker or Dislocated Spouse and will be relocating to or leaving Cannon Air Force Base due to BRAC, you may qualify for these service.  These services can be put towards continuing education or certificates of training in line with the list of in-demand occupations. You may choose an occupation with a local growth rate of 22% or higher. Please go to http://www.workforceconnection.state.nm.us/WIA_Demand.htm to view  the list of Occupations in Demand.
Educate yourself about all that is available to you.

If you would like to pursue the continuing education services provided through WIA you must first apply for financial aid. You may apply through mail or online. 

To apply for Financial Aid online, first obtain a pin number, the pin number serves as a electronic signature and provides access to various U.S. Departments of Education, and you need this pin in order to apply for Financial Aid, which is a requirement prior to applying for WIA services for continuing education.

Once you have completed all the requested information turn into appropritate personnel,  WIA Pre-qualification must be filled out and returned to New Mexico Work Force Connection Center.
